I have a question regarding acne scarring. I am a 38 yr old female. When I was young I had an acne problem. I still get an ocassional outbreak but for the most part my face is pimple free. I was taking an antibiotic for sometime but stopped taking it when I got pregnant. As I am getting older and now with a 4 month old I feel as if my scarring is more noticeable. I was having dermabrasion done monthly for about 2 yrs however it did not appear to make much of a difference. Is there anything I can do to lessen the appearance of acne scarring?...Read Response

If you experience some discoloration, I would first recommend using a daily SPF for your skin such as the Aloe Moisturizer (SPF-15). Using gently AHA’s such as fruit extracts and glycolic acid will help to gently even out your skin tone. Hyper-pigmention and discoloration may take a long time to even out. I would strongly recommend using a daily SPF such as the Oil Free Moisturizer (SPF-17) or higher to hydrate and protect your skin for further discoloration. Then I would consider using the Glycolic Foaming Cleanser 2-3 times a week at night only to help promote gentle exfoliation as it evens out skin tone. Do not over use this product as it may over dry the skin, otherwise this deep cleansing treatment will be very effective for lessening the appearance of old acne scars. Lastly, you could use the Whitening Mask 2-3 times a week for 10 minutes to help brighten the skin and even out overall skin tone as it discourages further discoloration.

If you have oily skin with hyper-pigmentation, the first thing I would recommend using is the Oil Free Moisturizer (SPF-17) to protect the skin from further discoloration. Use the Botanical Facial Gel twice daily to cleanse skin and control oil. I would also suggest the Glycolic Foaming Cleanser to deep clean and exfoliate surface dead skin to even out discoloration. Lastly, the Whitening Mask may be used 2-3 times a week for 5-7 minutes to help brighen and even out skin tone. With regular and consistent use, your skin should feel less oily and in time more even toned, especially on your forehead.

If you have acne prone skin and you are concerned about keeping your skin hydrated, I would recommend using the oil free Aloe Moisturizer (SPF-15) as a daily moisture choice. At night, try using the Anti-Acne Serum (New) before bedtime. After cleansing and toning, use a few drops of this serum to give your skin a hydrating boost. It contains 2% salicylic acid to prevent breakouts while you sleep. Just apply a thin layer over the acne prone areas every evening to keep your skin feeling soft, smooth and clear.

I have been using Mario Badescu products for a couple months now and so far I am very pleased with the results. I am 20 years old and I have been struggling with acne for many years now, and my acne has been clearing up thanks to the Mario Badescu products but I am noticing that I have a lot of sun spots, acne scars and little pimples on my forehead. Could you suggest any products that would help? I am also wondering what you would recommend for a day and night moisturizer and also an eye cream. I am also noticing little white dots under my eyes. Any ideas? Products? Thank you so much! I love Mario Badescu products!...Read Response (asked by Sarah M. of East Peoria, IL) |

We are glad to hear that you have had such positive results with our skin care line. In regards to sun spots and old acne scars, I recommend using the Oil Free Moisturizer (SPF-17). It will help to balance your skin and ensure that your skin does not become too dry. In addition, it will offer daily sun protection to prevent further discoloration of any hyper-pigmentation. The Glycolic Foaming Cleanser will deep clean your skin and promote gentle cell turnover to help remove surface dull skin build up. With consistent use, it will even out skin tone and improve the overall texture of your skin. We recommend that you use it 1-2 times a week in place of your regular cleanser. The "little white dots" that you have under your eyes may be Milia. Milia are deep seeded white bumps that form when skin cells become trapped rather than exfoliate naturally. They should be taken care of by a dermatologist. In the meantime, avoid the use of any eye creams, especially heavier ones. You may however use the Ceramide Eye Gel, an ultra-lightweight hydrating eye gel that can be stored in the refrigerator. Use a little morning and night to soften the delicate eye area while it calms down any under eye the puffiness.

My girlfriend is living this year in a city with a lot of air pollution, dust, and other pollutants (Lima, Peru) and unfortunately her face is consistently breaking out as a result, and her face is becoming splotchy and dry from the cleansers she is using. She is interested in buying products ASAP that will combat this problem, and I was wondering which products would be most effective....Read Response (asked by Aaron M. of Unknown) |

Since your girlfriend is temporarily living in a city with a high degree of air pollution, dust and dirty air particles settling on her skin that can certainly play a role in clogging pores which may lead to bacteria build up and acne. Due to the constant exposure she has to the air pollutants, it is imperative that she use a daily skin care regimen that will help deep clean the impurities without over-drying her skin. First, I would recommend the Enzyme Cleansing Gel to gently cleanse the skin. It is enriched with Papaya and Grapefruit Extracts to help discourage dead skin build up and clogged pores. Follow with the Special Cucumber Lotion, an anti-bacterial solution that will help to disinfect skin and discourage acne flare-ups. Then she should apply a thin layer of the Oil Free Moisturizer (SPF-17) to keep skin well hydrated and protected. Use the Flower & Tonic Mask 2-3 times a week for 15 minutes to gently deep clean the pores. This is a combination purifying and calming mask for congested, bumpy or slightly oily skin types. The Kaolin based formula absorbs dirt and oil from pores while the soothing botanical Balsam Peru ingredient soothes minor redness and irritation. For the occasional surfaced whiteheads she may experience, the Drying Lotion will help to dry it up overnight. The best spot treatment for deep bumps is the Sulfur based Buffering Lotion. It is a light, liquid antiseptic solution to soothe and heal cystic blemishes.

Adult acne is a very common problem. Common causes may be related to hormonal imbalances, or stress causing oil glands to overcompensate. Acne occurs when the pores of the skin become clogged with oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria. Excess oil secretions build up beneath the blocked pore, providing a perfect environment for skin bacteria. The best means to prevent acne is to maintain a proper skin care regimen. It is also important to make sure that you are not picking of squeezing any of the blemishes. It can spread the bacteria and cause unwanted scarring in the process. The Acne Facial Cleanser which contains 2% Salicylic Acid will help to encourage the sloughing of surface dead skin cells. This purifying cleanser will remove dirt and oil while preventing clogged pores and breakouts. Follow with the Special Cucumber Lotion, an anti-bacterial solution that will help to disinfect skin and discourage acne flare-ups. Follow with the Oil Free Moisturizer (SPF-17) to keep skin well hydrated and protected. Using a daily SPF will prevent the darker acne scars from further discoloration. Use the Drying Mask 2-3 times a week to combat blemishes and impurities. Formulated for acne prone skin, this Sulfur based mask will help to absorb excess oil as it combats blemishes and impurities. Alternate twice a week with the Healing & Soothing Mask which contains Balsam Peru, a natural anti-inflammatory ingredient that relieves acne related redness and irritation. For oily, dull, congested skin, use the Glycolic Foaming Cleanser 2-3 times a week instead of the Acne Facial Cleanser. Glycolic Acid helps to break down dead skin build-up from the skins surface, reduce minor acne discoloration and leave skin radiant and smooth. Applying a thin layer of the Anti-Acne Serum (New) which contains 2% Salicylic Acid will help hydrate your skin in addition to gently exfoliating surface dead skin while you sleep. This mild night time treatment will keep your skin feeling balanced as it prevents future blemishes. The Drying Lotion will dry up surfaced whiteheads overnight. The Buffering Lotion is a liquid antiseptic solution that will help to heal deep cystic hormonal blemishes.

I have had adult acne for four years, since I became pregnant with my son. I have tried Benzoyl Peroxide products, Salicylic Acid, Clindamycin, Differin Gel, antibiotics, getting monthly facials, and it still continues! Acne occurs when the pores of the skin become clogged with oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria. Acne lesions are commonly referred to as pimples. Excessive secretion of oils from the glands combine with naturally occurring dead skin cells to block the hair follicles. Oil secretions build up beneath the blocked pore, providing a perfect environment for the skin bacteria. The best means to prevent acne is to maintain a proper skin care regimen. It is also important to make sure that you are not picking or squeezing any of the blemishes. It can spread the bacteria and cause unwanted scarring in the process. Although you have tried Benzoyl Peroxide, Differin, and other antibiotics, you may respond better to Sulfur, our primary acne fighting ingredient. The Acne Facial Cleanser (New) which contains 2% Salicylic Acid will help to encourage the sloughing of surface dead skin cells. Use the Drying Mask two to three times a week to combat blemishes and impurities. Formulated for acne prone skin, this Sulfur based mask will help to absorb excessive oil as it combats blemishes and impurities. Alternate twice a week with the Healing & Soothing Mask which contains a natural anti-inflammatory ingredient Balsam Peru to relieve acne related redness and irritation. For oily, dull, congested skin, use the Glycolic Foaming Cleanser 2-3 times a week instead of the Acne Facial Cleanser (New). Glycolic Acid helps to break down dead skin build-up from skins surface, reduce minor acne discoloration and leave skin radiant and smooth. The Drying Lotion is the perfect overnight spot treatment for surfaced whiteheads. Lastly, for stubborn cystic acne, the best spot treatment is the Sulfur based Buffering Lotion. I’m wondering if you have a product that would help a cluster of under-the-skin bumps (they have not broken the surface yet, but are constantly there, like a pimple that never goes away). I tried a sample of the Drying Cream, and it helped somewhat but they never fully disappeared. I saw an e-mail for Silver Powder, and I was wondering if that would help. Please let me know your thoughts. ...Read Response (asked by Jodi T. of Vancouver, WA) |

Since you are experiencing deep cystic blemishes, I would recommend our Buffering Lotion as the best spot treatment. It will help to bring down the inflammation and heal the blemish. I would also recommend that you use a complete skin care regimen to help maintain healthy skin and to prevent breakouts. To help prevent the build-up of dead skin, washing twice daily with Enzyme Cleansing Gel will maintain the skins moisture as well as gently cleanse. Using the Special Cucumber Lotion after cleansing will disinfect the skin and prevent future breakouts. Applying the Oil Free Moisturizer (SPF-17) daily will hydrate and moisturize your skin while adding a daily sun protection. To control breakouts our Drying Mask will reduce surface oiliness while drying up acne prone or acne affected areas. The Healing & Soothing Mask will calm and soothe acne related redness and irritation while promoting the healing of blemishes.
