I am 51 years old and have acne (clogged pores, oily, and sometimes dry, and flaky skin) and rosacea. I am so frustrated -- how do I treat my skin with your products? I have clogged pores, and I am getting white bumps under my skin that do not come up. I have had rosacea for about 20 years now, and since I went into menopause it has gotten worse. How do I treat the clogged pores on my nose, cheeks, forehead and chin without making my rosacea worse? I do get pustules from the rosacea occasionally, but I am noticing more and more broken capillaries showing especially when I use milder acne medications. What do you recommend? Thanks....Read Response (asked by Jeanie F. of Annandale, VA) |

Based on the information that you provided regarding your skin type (combination/sensitive skin with acne/rosacea) it is necessary to use a very mild regimen to gently cleanse your skin without aggravating the rosacea. I would suggest using the Cream Soap twice daily to cleanse and soothe delicate skin. Follow with the alcohol free Seaweed Cleansing Lotion toner. This non-drying toner cleans and disinfects dry and sensitive skin to prevent blackheads. Mild Witch Hazel formula removes pore clogging debris while Aloe Extract soothes sensitive areas. Use the oil-free Aloe Moisturizer (SPF-15) daily to soften dry skin without clogging pores. Prevent pores from clogging by using the Flower & Tonic Mask 1-2 times a week on the t-zone. This is a combination purifying and calming mask for sensitive, congested skin types. Use the Calma Mask on alternating days to instantly calm redness. The Kaolin based formula absorbs oil from pores while soothing botanical Balsam Peru ingredient soothes minor redness and irritation. To spot treat surfaced whiteheads, use the Drying Lotion to help dry them up overnight. The most effective spot treatment for deep bumps is the Sulfur based Buffering Lotion. It is a light, liquid antiseptic solution to soothe and heal cystic blemishes.

If you have been diagnosed with Rosacea, it is important to keep your regimen extremely simple since the skin can be very delicate. When selecting a skin care regimen, it is important to choose mild products to help visibly reduce redness, even out skin tone, and smooth overall skin texture. Consistent use will offer optimal skin care results. Our priority is to help you achieve and maintain healthy, radiant skin. We would recommend using the Cream Soap suggested for mild cleansing of delicate skin. Follow with the Chamomile Cleansing Lotion to instantly soothe dry, sensitive skin. Chamomile Extract is a natural anti-inflammatory ingredient that helps to calm skin immediately. The Control Cream is enriched with Balsam Peru, a tree bark extract that soothes and reduces redness and irritation on the skin. This protective cream may be used morning and night to effectively moisturize and to calm sensitive skin. Enriched with skin-soothing botanicals, use the Calma Mask 2-3 times a week for 15 minutes to alleviate irritation and redness. In areas of extreme inflammation, apply a thin layer of the Control Cream underneath the mask.

I have been taking two chemotherapy drugs (Tarceva and Zometa). The good news is that they are containing the cancer, but they also dry my skin to a remarkable degree. I have tried cleansers, treatments and moisturizers from Nia24, Eucerin, Aveeno, DHC and Scosh, as well as Aquaphor. I am still so dry that my skin flakes off all over my body as well as my face. Any ideas about which products I might try?...Read Response (asked by Laura S. of Phoenix, AZ) |

First of all, we are glad you are feeling better. Since the two chemotherapy drugs (Tarceva and Zometa) you are using to control the cancer caused extreme dryness on the face and body, we can recommend a hydrating regimen that will soothe and nourish your skin. The Cream Soap may be used twice daily to gently cleanse sensitive skin types. Follow with the Chamomile Cleansing Lotion toner to help instantly soothe dry sensitive skin. The Chamomile Eye Cream may be used under the eye area morning and night. The skin around the eyes is very delicate, thin, and susceptible to damage. Wrinkles and fine lines are made more obvious when skin is dry, so keeping the area moisturized will keep it looking supple, and fine lines will be less obvious. Use the Complex Moisturizer With Vitamin E (SPF-20) daily after toning. It contains Vitamins A & E and Hyaluronic Acid to lock in skins natural moisture along with a high SPF for daily protection. Lastly, the Protein Night Cream is the perfect night cream for you. Intense moisture replenishing night cream enriched with Vitamin A and collagen to reduce the effects of aging. As for dry skin on the body, we would recommend the Super Rich Olive Body Lotion. Creamy, rich Olive Oil based lotion restores moisture and leaves the skin feeling soft and silky without a greasy residue. Leaves skin feeling supple and nourished year round.

What kind of products would you recommend for patients on Accutane?...Read Response (asked by Jennifer L. of Los Angeles, CA) |

For patients on Accutane, it is best to consult with your dermatologist regarding skin care products. One of the typical side effects would be very dry, sensitive skin. Our customized regimens consist of specific products meant to help your various skin concerns; however, it is important to keep your regimen extremely simple since the skin can be very delicate. We do have gentle products such as the Cream Soap that would be suggested for mild cleansing of delicate skin. Follow with the Chamomile Cleansing Lotion to instantly soothe dry, sensitive skin. Use the oil-free Aloe Moisturizer (SPF-15) daily to soften dry skin without clogging pores. Lastly, I would suggest the Herbal Hydrating Serum to hydrate and soften dry, parched skin nightly.

A friend of mine turned me on to your site. I was interested in your rosacea line and I was wondering if I could try a few samples. I have rosacea slightly in my cheeks which people always comment what nice color I have, but I hate it. If I’m too hot at work my face feels like it’s on fire. Thank you for any help you can offer. ...Read Response (asked by Karen M. of Middleton, NJ) |

Having rosacea it is very important that you choose products that calm and soothe dry, sensitive skin. Our Cream Soap is fragrance free and will thoroughly cleanse your skin without irritation. Our Chamomile Cleansing Lotion will help soothe and tone irritated sensitive skin. Applying our Control Cream day and/or night will help prevent moisture loss, hydrate and calm flaky, sensitive skin as well as diminish any redness. The Calma Mask use two to three times a week is very effective for instantly calming irritated skin upon application.
