I am 51 years old and have acne (clogged pores, oily, and sometimes dry, and flaky skin) and rosacea. I am so frustrated -- how do I treat my skin with your products? I have clogged pores, and I am getting white bumps under my skin that do not come up. I have had rosacea for about 20 years now, and since I went into menopause it has gotten worse. How do I treat the clogged pores on my nose, cheeks, forehead and chin without making my rosacea worse? I do get pustules from the rosacea occasionally, but I am noticing more and more broken capillaries showing especially when I use milder acne medications. What do you recommend? Thanks....Read Response (asked by Jeanie F. of Annandale, VA) |

Based on the information that you provided regarding your skin type (combination/sensitive skin with acne/rosacea) it is necessary to use a very mild regimen to gently cleanse your skin without aggravating the rosacea. I would suggest using the Cream Soap twice daily to cleanse and soothe delicate skin. Follow with the alcohol free Seaweed Cleansing Lotion toner. This non-drying toner cleans and disinfects dry and sensitive skin to prevent blackheads. Mild Witch Hazel formula removes pore clogging debris while Aloe Extract soothes sensitive areas. Use the oil-free Aloe Moisturizer (SPF-15) daily to soften dry skin without clogging pores. Prevent pores from clogging by using the Flower & Tonic Mask 1-2 times a week on the t-zone. This is a combination purifying and calming mask for sensitive, congested skin types. Use the Calma Mask on alternating days to instantly calm redness. The Kaolin based formula absorbs oil from pores while soothing botanical Balsam Peru ingredient soothes minor redness and irritation. To spot treat surfaced whiteheads, use the Drying Lotion to help dry them up overnight. The most effective spot treatment for deep bumps is the Sulfur based Buffering Lotion. It is a light, liquid antiseptic solution to soothe and heal cystic blemishes.

My daughter just turned twelve and she has the occasional pimple (usually small not much pus). Is she too young to use your acne products? If not, what products would you recommend? I thought about purchasing the Drying Lotion to apply to the pimples when she gets one. Would she need any other products?...Read Response (asked by Lupe K. of Avondale, AZ) |

Since your daughter is twelve years old and she experiences the occasional pimple, I would recommend a simple, mild regimen to help keep her skin clean and healthy. I would suggest that she begin using the Enzyme Cleansing Gel twice daily. This non-foaming, gel cleanser thoroughly removes dirt and oil without drying the skin. Papaya Extracts are exfoliating Alpha Hydroxy Acids that helps prevent dull skin build-up that can cause blackheads and pimples. After cleansing, follow with the Seaweed Cleansing Lotion toner. This witch hazel formula gently removes pore clogging oils and disinfects sensitive skin to prevent blackheads. It is important to use a deep pore cleansing mask such as the Flower & Tonic Mask. Use it 2-3 times a week for 15 minutes to remove impurities and excess oils to prevent clogged pores and blemishes. One other product that your daughter would need to complete her regimen is the Drying Lotion. It will help to effectively dry up any surfaced whiteheads overnight.

I am 33 years old and I have adult acne that I am trying to control while at the same time fighting fine lines/wrinkles under my eyes and forehead. My acne has been a problem for over 10 years now (whiteheads, blackheads, and cystic acne around my chin area). I love the Buffering Lotion but I want to try a cleanser, eye cream, and a moisturizer. Not sure what to use. ...Read Response (asked by Jami C. of Chesterfield, MO) |

Adult acne is a very common problem. Common causes may be related to hormonal imbalances, or stress causing oil glands to overcompensate. Acne occurs when the pores of the skin become clogged with oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria. Excess oil secretions build up beneath the blocked pore, providing a perfect environment for skin bacteria. The best means to prevent acne is to maintain a proper skin care regimen. It is also important to make sure that you are not picking of squeezing any of the blemishes. It can spread the bacteria and cause unwanted scarring in the process. The Acne Facial Cleanser which contains 2% Salicylic Acid will help to encourage the sloughing of surface dead skin cells. This purifying cleanser will remove dirt and oil while preventing clogged pores and breakouts. Follow with the Special Cucumber Lotion, an anti-bacterial solution that will help to disinfect skin and discourage acne flare-ups. Follow with the Oil Free Moisturizer (SPF-17) to keep skin well hydrated and protected. Using a daily SPF will prevent the darker acne scars from further discoloration. Use the Drying Mask 2-3 times a week to combat blemishes and impurities. Formulated for acne prone skin, this Sulfur based mask will help to absorb excess oil as it combats blemishes and impurities. Alternate twice a week with the Healing & Soothing Mask which contains Balsam Peru, a natural anti-inflammatory ingredient that relieves acne related redness and irritation. For oily, dull, congested skin, use the Glycolic Foaming Cleanser 2-3 times a week instead of the Acne Facial Cleanser. Glycolic Acid helps to break down dead skin build-up from the skins surface, reduce minor acne discoloration and leave skin radiant and smooth. Applying a thin layer of the Anti-Acne Serum (New) which contains 2% Salicylic Acid will help hydrate your skin in addition to gently exfoliating surface dead skin while you sleep. This mild night time treatment will keep your skin feeling balanced as it prevents future blemishes. The Drying Lotion will dry up surfaced whiteheads overnight. The Buffering Lotion is a liquid antiseptic solution that will help to heal deep cystic hormonal blemishes.

I am 30 years old and I have had acne for almost 10 years, from cystic bumps on my cheeks, to blackheads on my nose and chin, to those annoying little bumps that seem to never go away. I live in NM (it is the desert and it is hell on skin) and now that we are heading into fall/winter the air is very dry. So I cant seem to find the right balance for my skin. I either look broken out like a teenager or dried up and old. ...Read Response (asked by Kate S. of Albuquerque, NM) |

Based on the information that you provided regarding your skin type, I am recommending that you continue using the Acne Facial Cleanser since the 2% Salicylic Acid will continue to prevent breakouts. The Special Cleansing Lotion C is meant for problematic skin with daily breakouts and would be too strong for you. I would follow your cleanser with the Special Cucumber Lotion toner twice daily after cleansing to disinfect the skin and discourage the acne. You may use the Glycolic Foaming Cleanser 1-2 times a week only at night to deep clean and exfoliate surface dead skin. Use the oil-free Aloe Moisturizer (SPF-15) daily to soften dry skin without clogging pores. I would suggest the Herbal Hydrating Serum to hydrate and soften dry, parched skin nightly. Use the Flower & Tonic Mask 2-3 times a week for 15 minutes to gently deep clean the skin without over-drying skin. The Drying Lotion is the perfect overnight spot treatment for surfaced whiteheads. Lastly, for stubborn cystic acne, the best spot treatment is the Sulfur based Buffering Lotion. It is a light, liquid antiseptic solution to soothe and heal cystic blemishes.

For the most part my skin is pretty good. I’m 34 and fair skinned, with my skin occasionally prone to small whiteheads in the nose/chin area, but otherwise I’m fairly dry. My biggest concern is clogged pores on my nose. I’ve started using your Seaweed Soap Cleanser followed by the Honey Moisturizer and I am very happy with the results. Can you suggest anything for the clogged pores?...Read Response (asked by Delaney M. of Unknown) |

Since your biggest concern is clogged pores on your nose along with some small whiteheads, use the kaolin based Flower & Tonic Mask twice a week on your t-zone to discourage blackheads. It will help to absorb oil and impurities from pores as it calms and soothes sensitive skin types. On alternating days, use the mild Almond & Honey Face Scrub to exfoliate surface dullness and prevent any congestion. It is made with finely ground almond and cornmeal combined with honey to buff away flaky skin without irritating.

I am 30 years old and have very oily skin. I use oil-free products and after an hour or two at work my face is oily all over. My skin is prone to breakouts at times. Could you please let me know what products of yours may work; as in a cleanser, toner, moisturizer, mask, and etc.?...Read Response (asked by Alyssa H. of East Meadow, NY) |

Our customized regimens consist of specific products meant to help your various skin concerns. Being that you have oily skin, it is important to select a regimen that will help to control excess oil while it prevents breakouts. The Botanical Facial Gel is deep cleansing and refreshing for oily skin. Alpha-Hydroxy based formula help prevent build-up that can cause blackheads and pimples. Oily skin will be refreshed and deeply cleansed with the Cucumber Cleansing Lotion containing 4% Alcohol and soothing Cucumber Extract. It removes pore clogging residue and disinfects skins surface for thoroughly clean skin. Follow with the Control Moisturizer For Oily Skin to keep skin well hydrated and soothed. Contains Balsam Peru to help calm skin and reduce redness. If your skin is constantly oily and shining all day, you should use a clay based mask such as the Special Mask For Oily Skin to absorb and control excess oil output. For dull, congested skin, use the Glycolic Foaming Cleanser 2-3 times a week instead of the Botanical Facial Gel. Glycolic Acid helps to break down dead skin build-up from skins surface, reduce minor discoloration and leave skin radiant and smooth. The Drying Lotion is the perfect overnight spot treatment for surfaced whiteheads.

My question is regarding my 15 year old daughter. Her back and chest area are very spotty and she has quite a few deep blackheads, which eventually turn into whiteheads. She has scarred her back with all the picking and squeezing. Can you please recommend what products she should use to prevent more blackheads from appearing along with something to heal her skin and improve the texture? She has spots on her face, but no where near as many as she has on her body. ...Read Response (asked by Gina C. of Purley) |

For your daughters back and chest acne, I suggest bathing with our A.H.A. Botanical Body Soap which contains Grapefruit and Papaya Extract that will deep clean her skin and exfoliate surfaced dead skin as well as preventing clogged pores. She should avoid using any scrubs or sponges on the delicate breakout zones as it will only further irritate her skin. After showering applying Special Cleansing Lotion O (For chest and back only) with a cotton pad to dry up blemishes and prevent future breakouts. Using the Drying Mask on acne prone areas of her chest and back will reduce surface oiliness and control breakouts while drying up acne-affected areas. As spot treatments our Drying Lotion is excellent at clearing up and soothing whiteheads overnight while our Buffering Lotion is designed to target and prevent deep, cystic blemishes. The Drying Cream can be used daily to dry up small pimples that appear as raised bumps in oily areas of her skin.
I am recommending a skin care regimen for combination skin with occasional breakouts. For her face the Enzyme Cleansing Gel will not only remove face make-up and pore-clogging debris but maintain her skins natural moisture. To disinfect her skin and prevent any future breakouts use the Special Cucumber Lotion which will promote proper healing. She needs to hydrate her skin without clogging any of her pores and the Oil Free Moisturizer (SPF-17) is highly absorbent and provides protection from the sun. To absorb excess oils and to prevent future blackheads our Flower & Tonic Mask will soothe her skin and create a smoother refined look. Our world famous Drying Lotion made with a blend of Calamine and Salicylic Acid heals and dries those unsightly whiteheads.

My skin can be oily and dry. Very oily in the t-zone and can be dry around the sides of my nose and lips. Weekly breakouts and blackheads on my chin and nose areas while I also get tiny whitish bumps on my forehead. Please help!...Read Response (asked by Diane W. of Freehold, NJ) |

Being your skin is oily in some areas and dry in others, you have combination skin, the most common skin type. Because each area has its own needs, combination skin is the most difficult to care for properly and requires the proper selection of skin care products. We recommend a regimen using our Seaweed Cleansing Soap containing small grains of seaweed to gently exfoliate the skin while cleansing. Followed by the Seaweed Cleansing Lotion, a mild astringent to disinfect and soothe skin while removing pore clogging dirt and oil. To help retain your skins natural moisture, use our Ceramide Herbal Eye Cream which will reduce the look of dry, tired eyes. Apply the Oil Free Moisturizer (SPF-17) during the day to help hydrate your skin while adding daily sun protection, then at night using the A.H.A. & Ceramide Moisturizer will rejuvenate dull, congested skin. Two to three times a week the Flower & Tonic Mask will deep clean your skin while lifting dirt and impurities that cause blackheads and breakouts. The Drying Cream, a spot treatment with light concealing qualities, can be used daily to dry and heal pimples that are inflamed and infected. Our famous Drying Lotion, which contains Salicylic Acid and Calamine to help heal and soothe eruptions, is an excellent spot treatment for those stubborn surface whiteheads.
