You could read up on everything there is to know about what ingredient X does for skin concern Y, but how do you really know which daytime moisturizer works for you?
First test the moisturizer for potential reactions on either the inside of your wrist or the inside of your elbow (this preliminary step is especially important for those with sensitive skin). Gently rub the product into the skin and allow the product to remain on the skin for a full 24 hours. During that time period, be sure to check for burning, redness or irritation (remove the product immediately if any of the aforementioned occurs). If there is no negative reaction, the product should be safe to use on your face.
Next, apply the moisturizer on clean skin by gently massaging the product from the center of the face outwards, using circular motions. Take your time with this step – makeup artists actually prep their models that way. It’s like a mini facial that not only feels good and helps de-stress the muscles, but also helps improve circulation to get the blood flowing.
After 3-5 minutes of allowing the product to sink into the skin, touch your face. Is it tacky? Slippery? Greasy? Moisturizer should not sit on the surface: if you can still feel the product on your skin, it’s too heavy for you. Opt for a lighter or an oil-free option instead. If your skin feels rough and papery, or looks slightly cracked and flakey still, the moisturizer isn’t hydrating enough: try something with a thicker, creamier consistency.
Remember to choose your moisturizer based on your skin type and your skin's needs. Our Collagen Moisturizer (SPF 15) for example, offers lightweight, non-greasy hydration and is one of our most beloved moisturizers. But if your skin is oily and/or acne-prone, it's simply not the right choice for you.
