Let’s Talk: Crow’s Feet

crows feet

Crow's feet (those little lines that extend out from the corners of your eyes) are often the first apparent signs of visible aging. You'll probably notice them first when you catch yourself smiling or laughing in front of a mirror. And trust us, that's a beautiful thing. However, if you're interested in keeping your eye area youthful-looking for as long as possible, there are a few steps you can take.

Squinting Whether it’s due to a lack of perfect vision or simply to lessen the visual discomfort of a looking at a brilliantly shining sun, squinting is yet another culprit behind crow’s feet development. Like smiling, the repetitive motions through squinting will cause fine lines in the eye area. Invest in a good pair of sunglasses and make sure that you're up-to-date on your eye exams.

Tugging at the Eye Area Many people pull the outside corner of their skin taut for a more precise eyeliner application. While your cat-eye may look impeccable, you may be compromising the skin of the eye area. Aim to be gentle when applying eye liner or any eye makeup for that matter as the eye area is the most delicate part of the face. Also, be careful not to tug at the skin around your eyes (or any part of the face, for that matter) with your hands throughout the day.

Sleeping On Your Face It may be super comfortable to sleep on the side of your face, but avoiding doing so. Lying on a pillow night after night for hours on end can lead to fine lines and crow’s feet. Instead, lie on your back with two pillows for elevation—you’ll also wake up looking more rested; sleeping upright promotes better blood circulation.

Wear Eye Cream Get into the habit of incorporating an eye cream in your skin care regimen—both morning and night. A small dab applied on the orbital bone (the part of the face that lies between the upper cheekbone and under-eye area) will help encourage a younger looking eye area. Here's our most popular: the Hyaluronic Eye Cream.

Smile As they say, laughter is the best medicine. A cheerful heart is a younger one; while the trade-off to smiling is the formation of crow’s feet, don’t let that fact scare you. Go ahead and laugh till your stomach hurts and smile as often as you can—it will enhance your overall well-being and is worth a crow's foot or two!
