Beauty Resolutions You Can Keep #1: Drink More Water

Whether you’re an ambitious resolution-maker or just into making steady, feel-good goals, you know that keeping to them is half the battle.

Resolution: Drink more water.

Our bodies are about 60% water and we’re constantly losing water and should be replenishing it. So, it makes sense that we should be drinking water throughout the day. The question, then, is how much is enough? Different studies will tell you different things, but the average consensus is about two liters a day to keep your body (and skin) at optimal hydration levels. Without adequate H20 intake, you’re literally dehydrating yourself from the inside out. (And as we all know, drier skin tends to exacerbate the look of pores, fine lines, wrinkles, discoloration, etc. Water is key in keeping skin looking plump and youthful.) The solution? Keep water on hand at all times. I’m partial to keeping a 1.5 liter bottle of room temperature water at my desk at all times because I’m sheepish about making multiple trips to the water machine. If I’m out and about, I’ll stash a large bottle in my bag as well: toting around an extra few pounds gives you incentive to finish that water to alleviate the extra load. Not into plain water? Flavor it with your favorite fruit. Lemon and lime is a classic combo (and believed to boast additional healthy benefits as well), but here are a few more ideas to try out:
  • Blueberries + raspberries + strawberries
  • Watermelon
  • Lemon + orange
  • Lemon + honey
  • Mint
  • Mint + basil
  • Mint + basil + strawberries
