Step away from the light bulbs; I repeat, step away from the light bulbs!
. . .
It’s hard to believe that summer is already two months behind us on the east coast, but the cold reality is made even more obvious by the many faces, necks, hands and bodies that were, not so long ago, sun kissed. Like others, I used to panic when what I thought of as my “healthy glow” would fade. At Mario Badescu, we celebrate all skin tones, including untanned, alabaster complexions. However, we recognize that a blushing bronze can be in high demand this time of year. Know this: the myth that tanning booths are safe is just that—a fable invented to lure natural beauties into the realm of skin cancer and premature aging. There’s nothing pretty about damaging your skin. I can tell you, ten years later, those trips to the tanning booth weren’t worth the hyperpigmentation and fine lines I can already see—and I’m not even thirty yet—and I’m a skincare junkie—and I didn’t wind up with the guy I was trying to impress with my golden goddess-y tan! Even if the tanning salon claims to filter out UVB rays, the bulbs used in tanning beds and booths still expose your skin to damaging UVA rays which penetrate deeply into the skin causing damage that may not be seen for years to come. Instead, try a safer option like a bottled bronze, which can give the skin a subtle hint of color. Better yet, you can apply the product in layers for gradual darkening. No more bulbs, no more burns—just beautiful, bronze skin! Have you used a tanning booth in the past? Do you have any regrets?
